Senior Staff Accountant
Description
Collective Arts is searching for a detail-oriented and results-driven Senior Staff Accountant to support our Finance team. This role will be based out of our Hamilton location and offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and rapidly growing company. Reporting directly to the Manager, Financial Reporting this role will focus on financial reporting, reconciliations, and assisting with special projects. You will also play a key role in supporting the finance team through the month-end close and annual reporting cycles.
Hybrid Work Schedule
- Monday, Tuesday and Friday work from home
- Wednesday and Thursday work from the Brewery
A typical day as a Senior Staff Accountant will include
- Supporting the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Preparing and/or reviewing journal entries & account reconciliations
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
- Helping maintain and improve accounting policies and internal controls
- Participating in financial reporting projects, such as audits, budgets, and implementation of new accounting standards
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Sales and Innovation, to align financial reporting with business strategies
- Providing support and insight to enhance the team’s overall effectiveness and capabilities
How your time will be organized:
- Month-End and Year-End Close (40%): Supporting the timely and accurate completion of monthly and annual financial closes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Account Reconciliations & Analysis (35%): Performing detailed reconciliations of key accounts such as AP, AR, inventory, and fixed assets, and identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting & Statement Preparation (15%): Assisting with the preparation of internal financial reports and supporting the development of external financial statements and audit materials.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Ad Hoc Projects (10%): Working with other departments to create budgets, track spend and support various financial initiatives and special projects as needed.
We’re looking for candidates who have/are:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field. A specialization in Accounting is preferred.
- A CPA designation, near-completion, or advanced student standing
- 2-4 years of full-cycle accounting and audit experience
- Strong technical skills particularly in the use of MS Office and Excel (intermediate / advanced)
- Ability to prepare journal entries and perform complex account reconciliations
- Exposure to cost and management accounting
- Detail-oriented with strong data entry skills and a good mathematical aptitude
- Self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
